Right In Florida

Motto: This is what happens when Insanity and Banality come together.

Name:
Location: North Central Florida, United States

I'm an aging boomer, white male (cue scary music); not religious, mostly conservative. Married to the same woman forever. No kids-by choice (I believe in personal choice in most areas of life). Voted mostly Republican until November 2000 when the national Democrats tried to steal the election in Florida. I promised to never again vote for another Democrat; kept that promise to date.

US Population = 300 Million

According to AP story, "The 300 millionth person in the U.S. will likely be born - or cross the border - in October, though bureau officials are wary of committing to a particular month because of the subjective nature of the clock."

Only thing I know is they will all be in Florida sometime during the year.

Florida and its 7 (terrorist) dwarves

Yeah, these "home grown terrorists" (as I've heard them described in the media) are stupid. But terrorists only have to be lucky. While they may be mental and religious dwarves, not all Muslim terrorist are as stupid as these guys appear to be.

I read through this AP story and found something interesting. Well, not found is more like it. Not one mention of the race of the terrorists. Those of us familiar with Miami had a pretty good guess when we heard they were based in Liberty City. You won't find many IRA terrorists there. Yet, it might be information pertinent to the story. After all, if it was the KKK, I bet there would be mention of race throughout and how race hatred was a strong, if not the only, basis for the group.

Notice also how the men are not described as Muslims, except for "...described themselves as Muslims." Oh, the words "Islamic Army" and "al-Qaida" are mentioned, but not given much play. After all, why should their religion or creed be involved.

So it appears these guys are not a brain trust. That only explains their religious preference, it doesn't negate that Islam is a religion of violence and is perfect for terrorists and losers. We should all remember that and we should insist that law enforement keep an eye on mosques.

These Treasonous Times

The New York Times, of course. Once again, the Times (including the LA Times) has proven that there are no boundaries on their Bush/Republican/America hatred. The publisher, editor and reporters should be tried for treason.

Happy Fathers' Day

I've never had children (of the human kind) but I had a wonderful father. He died about 9 years ago after a long illness. He kept his humor and religion right to the end and died with his family around him. Well, almost all his family. I wasn't there. I wish I had been. But I still feel his presence when I visit his grave. My father loved his wife, his children and his God. He died without any regrets for what might have been. He did the best he could, which is all anyone should want. Happy Father's Day, Dad. I love you.

Been out of commission

Wow, it's been a week since my last post. Minor, but numerous, crises at work and I've been shorthanded. Too much going on in the world. Will be back to posting soon.

Post-vacation round-up

Loved the vacation, the part I didn't work.

Loved being with Mrs. Right and accomplishing the 'honey-do' list.

Hated the 'catch-up' at the office. I expected this past week to be bad. It was.

Look forward to the next vacation.

First Year of Blogging (belated post)

Visited PEER Review FL and noticed he completed his first year of blogging on May 31st. The Florida Masochist also completed his first year on May 27th and gave us a much appreciated blog-burst of "Knuckleheads." Well, it seems I forgot to mention my first blogging anniversary was March 22nd. It's been fun, even though my blog hasn't turned out like I hoped it would. I had intended to have daily thoughts about whatever the hell bugged or interested me. I've not been as attentive as I had wished, but I am still very much interested. And I want to again express my appreciation to antimedia at Media Lies for his early encouragement (and Blogger assistance).

Pledge of Allegiance - the Florida way

As the linked article states:
"A federal judge ruled Thursday that it is unconstitutional to require a student to stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Judge Kenneth Ryskamp also ruled that a student does not have to get a parent's permission to be excused from reciting the pledge. The American Civil Liberties Union sued the state Board of Education and state Education Commissioner John Winn on behalf of a Boynton Beach High School student who said he was disciplined for not standing during the pledge last year. Cameron Frazier, then a 17-year-old junior, was told by teacher Cynthia Alexandre that he was "so ungrateful and so un-American" after he twice refused to stand for the pledge in her classroom Nov. 8, the lawsuit said. Requiring Frazier to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance is "in violation of his First and Fourth Amendment rights," the lawsuit said."

The case was tried in West Palm Beach (home of the 2000 butterfly ballot and a Democrat stronghold) and OF COURSE this case was brought by the ACLU (also a Democrat stronghold).

Here's the deal. I went to Palm Beach County schools in the 1960s. We always stood for the Pledge and I think all of us said it and maybe most of us meant it. Kinda hard to tell with kids.

One thing I do know is, if some kid willfully "spat" on the Pledge in our presence, as seemingly is his Constitutional right, a few of his fellow students would exercise their perceived Constitutional right to kick his ass. But times have changed, I'm sure.

I don't want to give the impression that Floridians are an ungrateful lot or even particularly unpatriotic. But we do have a considerable number of unpatriotic citizens and a quite a few America haters. And it seems they all vote Democrat.
